About the Visa

Hold an Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV) in New Zealand. You may be able to bring your partner and dependent children. However, certain conditions depend on your job, income, and skill level.

Who Can You Support:

  • Partner: They can apply for either a work visa or a visitor visa.
  • Children: They can apply for a student visa or a visitor visa.

Key Factors That Impact Eligibility:

  • Job Status on the Green List: If your job is on the Green List and you meet the role’s criteria, it opens up more flexible visa options for your family.
  • Income: Your hourly wage determines the type of visa your family members can apply for.
  • ANZSCO Skill Level: Your job’s skill level also impacts what kind of visa you can support for your partner and children.

Income Requirements:

  • NZD$29.66/hour: Required to support a Partner of a Worker Work Visa with conditions.
  • NZD$59.32/hour: Allows you to support a Partner of a Worker Work Visa with open work conditions and other family visas.
  • NZD$43,322.76/year: Required to support a Dependent Child Student Visa.

Example:

  • Charlotte, a Shot Firer, earns NZD$61.60/hour, allowing her to support her partner with an open work visa and her child with a student visa.
  • Ranjit, a bus driver earning NZD$28/hour, can only support a Partner Visitor Visa for his wife. He can support her work visa with conditions after receiving a raise of NZD$29.66/hour.

If You Supported a Visa Before 26 June 2024:

If you supported a family member’s visa before this date, you may still be eligible to bring your family with fewer restrictions related to job skill level and income.

Changes in Your Situation:

If you supported a family member’s visa before this date, you may still be eligible to bring your family with fewer restrictions related to job skill level and income.

Income Threshold Examples:

If you earn NZD$59.32 an hour, you can support a Partner of a Worker Work Visa with open work conditions, a Dependent Child Student Visa, or a Visitor Visa for your child.

Transport Sector Agreement:

  • If your job is under the transport sector agreement, and you meet the requirements, you can support visas for your family.
  • If you earn less than NZD$29.66 an hour, you can only support a Partner of a Worker Visitor Visa.
  • If you earn at least NZD$29.66 an hour, you can support a Partner of a Worker Work Visa with conditions.

Example:

  • Ranjit, a bus driver, earns NZD$28 an hour and can only support a visitor visa for his wife. After raising NZD$29.66/hour, he can support her work visa with certain conditions.

Care Workforce Sector Agreement:

  • For jobs under this agreement, you may be able to support a family visa if your role meets the requirements.
  • If your ANZSCO skill level is 1, 2, or 3, you can support your partner and child for work, student, or visitor visas, depending on your income.

Skill Level 4 or 5:

  • If you have a role with ANZSCO skill level 4 or 5, you must earn NZD$47.41 an hour or meet specific role requirements to support your family.

Example:

  • Riz is a scaffolder earning NZD$36.60 an hour. Because he did not support a visa for his partner before 26 June 2024, and his job is skill level 4, he cannot support a visa for his family unless his income reaches NZD$47.41 an hour or his job role changes.

Supporting Family Visas Based on Income Changes:

If your income increases or your job is added to the Green List, you may be able to apply for open work visas for your partner and other visas for your children.

Example:

  • Lotta, a personal care worker, earns NZD$26.16 an hour and cannot support a visa for her family. After a raise to NZD$29.66/hour, her husband can apply for a Partner of a Worker Work Visa with conditions.

Ensure you meet the requirements to avoid delays or rejections when applying for family visas.
