New Zealand’s Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV): Updates and Stats

As of February 19, New Zealand Immigration has released an update on the Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV), New Zealand’s leading temporary work visa.

This initiative is at the forefront of a new employer-led procedure aimed at prioritising New Zealanders for employment opportunities while also streamlining the recruitment of skilled migrants in sectors experiencing real skill or labour shortages.

Application Milestones:

  • Initiation of accreditation, job checks, and work visa applications began in mid-2022.
  • To date, more than 108,938 AEWV applications and 32,775 employer accreditations have been approved.

Accreditation & Compliance:

  • Employers are required to obtain accreditation, advertise the position, and perform a Job Check.
  • The process encompasses multiple verification stages to maintain compliance and uphold the integrity of the immigration system.

Post-Accreditation Checks & Complaints:

  • INZ has conducted 2,712 post-accreditation checks, with an additional 596 currently in progress.
  • MBIE has received 2,107 complaints against accredited employers, reflecting allegations rather than confirmed violations.
  • Presently, there are 174 active investigations into accredited employers.

Compliance Actions:

  • A total of 145 employers have seen their accreditation revoked, while 53 have been suspended due to various reasons, including business liquidation.
  • Currently, 48 employers are under review for potential revocation of their accreditation, with no ongoing assessments for suspension.
