22 Nov – The government has introduced new changes to improve the processing efficiency of the Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV) scheme.
Starting Wednesday, 20 November 2024, employers must confirm that staff involved in hiring decisions for AEWV holders have completed the Employment New Zealand learning modules and that migrant workers are given paid time to complete these. However, employers are no longer required to submit proof of this when renewing their accreditation. Additional evidence may still be requested if there are concerns.
Faster Processing Times for AEWV Applications
Improving processing times for AEWV applications remains a key priority.
- In October, compared to September:
- 73% more AEWV applications were decided.
- 57% more Job Check applications were completed.
- 25% more employer accreditation applications were processed.
- Since September 2024, AEWV applications in progress have dropped by 51%, reaching the lowest levels since September 2022. Employer accreditation applications have decreased by 41%, and Job Check applications have reduced by 28%.
