1 August 2024
In a significant update, travellers needing a Transit Visa for New Zealand can now enjoy the convenience of applying online starting from 12 August 2024 via the Enhanced Immigration Online system. This shift marks a significant improvement in the application process, making it more efficient and user-friendly, and providing a sense of ease for our applicants.
Streamlined Online Applications
The transition to online applications eliminates the need for paper submissions through Visa Application Centres, thereby reducing associated fees and simplifying the process. Applicants will now have greater visibility over their applications, enabling them to monitor progress in real-time.
Group Transit Visa Applications for Chinese Nationals
Despite these advancements, applications for Group Transit Visas for Chinese nationals will continue to be processed on paper. However, efforts are underway to develop an online solution for this category soon.
Changes for Fijian Nationals
Starting 4 September 2024, Fiji will be added to the Transit Visa waiver list. This means Fijian nationals can apply for a New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority (NZeTA) instead of a Transit Visa, simplifying their travel arrangements. Existing Transit Visas will remain valid until their expiration dates.
Transit Visa Waiver Countries
For those passing through Auckland International Airport en route to another country, a Transit Visa is not required if they are from a transit visa waiver country. However, they must request an NZeTA before traveling.
NZeTA Details
The NZeTA can be obtained for NZD $23.00 online or NZD $17.00 via the free app, with most requests processed within 72 hours. The NZeTA is valid for two years.
